It’s been warm this weekend in Scilly although not quite like the Sahara. But a rare bird from Africa seems to be at home on one off-island.

Radio Scilly’s St Agnes reporter Bob Dawson discovered the male desert wheatear bird at Per Askin on Wingletang Down on Saturday afternoon.

Bob says he was “stunned” to see the bird there. Since then it’s been happily singing around the beach, he says.

It’s only the fourth sighting of the species on the islands.
