Dunes in Hayle took ablaze this week, the result of suspected arson. Cornwall Live reports on a statement from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service:

“Numerous calls were received for this incident, one appliance from Hayle was mobilised, on arrival the crew found a large fire and beaters were used to attempt to extinguish the fire, a further appliance, from Tolvaddon, along with a wholetime officer were requested, the fire was spreading along a 20 to 30 metre front, firefighters used beaters and a wildfire water back pack to extinguish the fire.

“The fire was extinguished by 2100 hours, one appliance from Hayle remained on scene for a time monitoring hot spots. Arson was suspected. Devon and Cornwall Police have been informed.”

Impacts on wildlife in the area are unreported at this time.
